Biography

Jack represents financial institutions, private equity funds, owner/operators and developers in all aspects of commercial real estate and private M&A nationwide. His practice involves a sophisticated blend of both debt and equity transactions. He excels in navigating clients through complicated and difficult legal and business issues.

Background

Before law, Jack worked in a variety of occupations, including “hotshot” fire fighter out West; media planner at NYC advertising agency; FM DJ at radio station in Kyoto, Japan; mathematics teacher at boys reform school in northeastern New Mexico; reporter in Washington, D.C. for South American think-tank; analyst at Maclean, Virginia management consulting firm; carpenter at southern California bookstore; and English adjunct professor at Slovak agricultural university.

Jack worked full-time in law as a real estate closer and in the Manhattan D.A.’s legislative affairs bureau while attending Brooklyn Law School’s night-program.

After graduating, he worked ten (10) years as a Paul Hastings LLP associate before becoming a business transactions partner for the last five (5) years, most recently at Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP in their Midtown office.

  • Represented Borrower in ground-up construction loan of boutique Brooklyn condominium.
  • Represented private-equity client in joint venture to purchase defaulted debt on suburban office property.
  • Represented real estate fund in joint venture and financing of suburban office project in Long Island.
  • Represented real estate fund in joint venture to acquire urban Massachusetts multi
  • Represented private equity client in sale of 22-property portfolio of self-storage facilities in the Northeast
  • Represented a national insurance company in purchase of a pari passu participation of two $462 million mortgage loans secured by ground-lease mortgage of regional shopping mall in the Northwest
  • Represented private equity client in joint venture repositioning/development of several office parcels in southeast Florida
  • Represented financial institution in $46 million mortgage loan, with junior mezzanine component, on mixed use project on Manhattan’s lower east side
  • Represented investment management firm in $45 million joint venture of Pennsylvania hotel with a local operator, involving a complex bond consent agreement and ground lease structure
  • Represented real estate fund in joint venture, recapitalization and debt restructuring of mixed use waterfront project in Pennsylvania.
